Chrissi Warnick joined the Marine Corps shortly after high school and was on active duty for 15 years before she had to leave due to medical reasons. Once out, she found herself among the unskilled workforce and knew that returning to school was a way for her to obtain a new career. “I had no degree and I needed to learn a new trade,” she said.
After doing some research, Chrissi learned about becoming a Billing & Coding Professional and enrolled in the Health Claims Specialist program at the Harris School of Business in Cherry Hill, NJ. “The school was conveniently located and the course work was program specific and focused only on health claims,” she explained.
Chrissi had some financial concerns prior to enrolling, but after meeting with the campus’ financial aid advisors, she was put at ease. The campus offers financial aid for those who qualify and offers its students financial support from various aid programs. The advisors work with students to tailor programs to meet their individual needs. She stated, “The financial counselors helped me every step of the way and were an instrumental part in helping me stay focused. I was able to concentrate on my studies and not worry about money.”
After graduating, Chrissi became an Accounts Receivable Specialist at Physician and Tactical Healthcare Services, LLC (PATHS), a company that provides solutions for receivable management to assist the needs of their healthcare clients. “Harris taught me specific skills that I do at my job, such as processing claims in the correct manner, how to post payments and do charge entry.”
“Deciding to go to Harris School has allowed me to have choices on what I want to do in life, rather than just knowing what I learned in the Marine Corps,” Chrissi said. “I make good money, have a great benefits plan and I have never been happier.”
