Bill Lin

medical billing and coding schools“A few years ago, I would have never thought I would have gone back to school,” Bill Lin said. It was a few years ago that Bill was working as a computer and systems engineer at Hewlett-Packard Company. However, when his computer project came to an end and his group disbanded, he found himself unemployed and looking for a new career path.

Bill explained, “I was ready to try something that was different and in demand. Something that could be done anywhere in the United States and that suited my personality. With my attention to detail, I thought that medical coding was good choice.”
He decided to enroll in the Medical Billing and Coding program at Salter College in West Boylston, MA. The location of the school was very convenient for Bill and he really liked learning that the program included an externship, enabling him to gain real-world experience before graduation. “All of my instructors were knowledgeable and made learning more interesting. I came out of the program with the certainty that I knew the material as well as anyone.”
After the completion of his externship, Bill had the experience and confidence to take and pass the American Academy of Professional Coders' (AAPC) Certified Professional Coder (CPC) exam!
Bill has found quality employment as a Medical Coding Specialist at Fallon Clinic, a large multi-specialty medical group practice with locations throughout the greater Worcester community. He shared, “I work in the radiology department where I review charges for radiology services. I read radiology reports and associate the appropriate ICD-9 diagnoses with the CPT procedures rendered. I then release the claims electronically to the various insurance companies.”
“Unfortunately, unemployment happens,” he said. “But I am quite happy in my present state of being. My life absolutely benefited from my decision to enroll at Salter College."
